German Submarine Attacks Off Nantucket Sinking Several Vessels
A German submarine off Nantucket shelled and sank four British ships three more vessels were torpedoed and left crippled off the coast including the Strathdorne West Point and Kingston. Norwegian and Dutch freighters were also reported sunk as patrols evacuated crews. President Wilson expresses concern while warnings flood the air and ships divert to inside lanes to avoid the menace.

Union County Man Dies in Rock Hill at 53
Union County man B Franklin Richardson formerly of Union died at home in Rock Hill last Tuesday morning October 3 from paralysis after a stroke July 16 1915. George Reader, about 25, injured while repairing a belt at Lee's Mill. He was caught by a pulley, suffering broken nose, thighs, ankle, arm, with scalp wounds. He was rescued by J E Griffin and Adam House, treated at a hospital, and described as a hardworking local citizen and respected worker.
