Automobile Crash on Lawyer's Road Injures Local Farmer

Early yesterday a car owned by John Lee and driven by his son Arthur struck Willis McManus near the Mecklenburg Union line on Lawyer's Road. McManus, a well known farmer, was walking behind a wagon when hit. his condition was critical, and his life was despaired of last night. The car, reportedly running without lights at speed, had been on a hunting trip in Goose Creek, Union County, and was returning toward Mint Hill. Both Lee and McManus come from families with many ties in the area, and the incident prompted solemn concern in the community.

Dr Poteat Wins Loving Cup for Letters

Mr. Kitehin Meets Wilson Over War Funding

Mr. Kitehin spent an hour with President Wilson at the White House by invitation to discuss Army and Navy increases. He said the talk was pleasant and he would remain opposed to the increases, noting support from both Republican and Democrat members. House leader Kitchin indicated he would not pledge to back White House plans and would explain his reasons if he opposed the proposals.
