Colored child burned to death in Lane Creek home
Reports say a nine year old colored girl living on J. C. Huggins's place in Lane Creek was burned to death last Thursday morning after her dress caught fire. Her mother had left the house. she tried to smother the flames with bedding but died soon after in the yard. The tragedy prompts a warning to keep children away from fires.

Death of B J Heath at Matthews after long illness
Mr B J Heath died at his home in Matthews at six yesterday morning after a long fight with cancer of the face. He was 71 years old and leaves three brothers, a wife Anna McLaughlin, and a large family. Buried in Charlotte today, he was a prominent regional merchant with extensive property in Matthews and a reputation for integrity.

Friends and relatives were surprised when Misa Litlie Tillman and James W. Austin wed Saturday at the Methodist parsonage in a brief ceremony conducted by Rev. C. F. Sherrill. The couple, amid rice showers, departed on the 5:21 train for Portsmouth and Norfolk and will reside in Scotland Neck where Austin works as chief clerk in the A. C. Ly offices.
