Three American Soldiers Killed in Mexican Border Clash
Luis de la Rosa’s force attacked a U S cavalry detachment at Saint Ignacio near Laredo. The clash left eight of the Mexican force dead and many horses wounded, with three American soldiers killed and six wounded. Maj. Alonzo Gray led a sweep to trace the band as officials fear a third punitive expedition may follow. Some evidence suggests the bulk crossed into Mexico while others remain on the American side. The first shot rang out at 2 am as a guard corporal noted Mexicans beyond the sentry’s line.
