Relief Work Under Gov Craig Spreads Charity Across North Carolina

A state relief drive organized by Gov Craig’s committee moves forward with $3000 raised in three days. Chair RE Britton of Raleigh and treasurer E W Crow lead as the relief fund district allocations total $6,000,000 for immediate aid while regions like Mitchell, Yancey and Avery await word due to limited communications. Subcommittees, including John Sprant Hill, A M Seales, and B W Kilgore, will survey afflicted areas to guide further distribution. The plan emphasizes need based relief rather than equal shares, urging universal, voluntary support from all citizens to sustain food, clothing, and eventual reconstruction. The effort relies on thousands of small gifts and larger contributions from the better off.
