Tragic Car Crash Kills Hamlet Hotel Manager

A Friday morning automobile accident near a railroad crossing in Hamlet killed John McKee Jamison, hotel proprietor and prominent local figure, and fatally injured his wife and others. His wife Mrs. Jamison survived, while sons John and Paul and Mrs. Bagwell and her son were injured. Jamison owned the Stonewall Hotel and was a noted South business leader. The crash occurred as train No. 62A northbound struck their car at a crossing near Breighy, with Jamison attempting to clear the tracks and the brakes failing. The party was en route for a short excursion when the tragedy unfolded.

Tragedy at Thomasville as Morris kills child in home

In Thomasville North Carolina on June 26 Jess Morris brother of Marcia Westmoreland murdered a year old girl named Clara by shooting in the mouth with a .22 caliber pistol. The crime occurred in the front room while the parents were in the kitchen. Morris fled but was captured about three miles away and jailed in Lexington. He had shown signs of mental instability recently and lived in Silver City as a traction engine operator before moving to Thomasville.
