Neal McKinnon colored was sentenced to eighteen months on the roads by Judge Cline for stealing a bale of cotton from Frank Hasty near Marshville on November 21. McKinnon fled to Monroe where he was linked to the crime by witnesses and money found upon him. The defense tried to deflect blame but the evidence and identification by Henry Presson and Ernest Barrett led to conviction.

In Superior court Judge J L Webb sent Clay Deese age eighteen and Jeff Williams roughly twenty four to eighteen months on the road gang for the October store break in Price's store. They admitted loading the safe two miles from town. The safe held nearly 3000 dollars in cash and papers.

May Lose Home Demonstration Work In Marshville
Mrs. B. H. Griffin reports the Home Demonstration Work or Girls Canning Clubs may be dropped this year without more funds. Six hundred dollars is needed to continue, with the State Agricultural Department pledging half if the county raises the rest. The County Board offered one hundred toward the work if the County Commissioners provide two hundred, but the Commissioners reportedly favor only one hundred. If the work continues, citizens must contribute the remaining funds.
