A Washington woman, Mrs Joseph Darling, helps Belgium relief efforts by coordinating food box donations. Dr Harvey Wiley oversees Kentwood boxes now led by the Belgian relief commission with Mrs Lindon Lates as chair. Boxes for Belgian adults include beans, salmon, cornmeal, flour, sugar, tea, and canned goods, sent free of postage via the post office. donors receive stamp refunds. Funderburk Granted Bond in Luther Traywick Killing Case
In a habeas corpus proceeding Judge Lane allowed A. C. Funderburk of Upton County bond set at 6900 dollars for the killing of neighbor Luther Traywick during a corn sharing dispute on Funderburk’s Monroe County property. Witnesses testified both men hauled corn and struggled as Traywick advanced with a knife, prompting Funderburk to shoot in self defense. Traywick suffered two fatal pistol wounds. Bond to be approved by Union county clerk. Sheriff Griffith held Funderburk in custody.
