The Journal ends its eight week subscription contest tomorrow night at 9 30 in the courthouse tower. Judges Ney McNeeley W C Lemmond and Henry Fairley will count votes and announce results. Reports must be in by 9 30 and voting certificates placed in the box for safe counting.
The town records a double wedding at Mr. John Holt's home with Miss Beulary Rollings, and Mr. Holt's son, while Mr. J A Hicks reports three souls made happy by a ceremony. Local theft and petty burglaries continue as food items vanish from homes, shops, and farms.
President Wilson defends a peacetime policy while warning against rapid militarization. He argues the nation can defend itself without large standing armies and urges steadfast commitment to justice, concord, and friendship among nations.

German squadron of five cruisers including the Scharnhorst Gneisenau Nurnberg Leipzig and Dresden clashed with Vice Admiral Sir Frederick Sturdees British force near the Falkland Islands. Scharnhorst Gneisenau and Leipzig were sunk while Dresden and Nurnberg escaped. British losses not disclosed.
The Fulton County Superior Court on Wednesday sentenced Leo M. Frank to death by hanging for the 1913 murder of Mary Phagan, a 14 year old factory girl. He proclaimed his innocence and warned of a dangerous era marking judicial failings amid mob influence. The article notes possible appeals to the U S Supreme Court or clemency to Governor Slaton.
Acting on the request of Attorney General Thomas H. Weebles Governor Cole L. Blease appointed Eugene J. Kibler as State detective. He will go to Charleston to attend the racing meet and determine if gambling or other criminal law violations occurred. Kibler will report to Governor Blease and a copy will be given to the attorney general.
