Rev. T Tracy Walsh opens a weeklong mission at St Pauls Episcopal Church urging daily prayer Bible reading and inviting all to attend. He cites Job 2 4 comparing care for physical life with neglect of the soul and stresses eternal life over worldly gains. Services run 10 30 a m and 7 30 p m daily with invitations to participate.
Miss Edna Freeman daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Freeman married Mr. Vance Williams with Rev H H King officiating at the home of Rev and Mrs H B King in Indian Trail. The couple has many friends wishing them happiness as they begin married life.
Washington announces the public sale of thrift stamps at 25 cents and war savings certificates at 82.40, to run for a year as part of a national drive to raise 2 billion dollars for the war. Post offices and banks will stock the items, with schools stores and savings societies added soon, and state and local allotments based on population.
Ruth Stonehouse notes a Paris dinner where Franklin, honored Americans, French and English. A Briton toasted Britain, a Frenchman France, and Franklin toasted George Washington, “the Joshua of America,” who commanded sun and moon to stand still.

The groom, a traveling salesman for the Liquid Carbonic Company of Atlanta, and the bride will reside in Greensboro.
A plea from a reader urges residents to donate small personal items to a welting pot for Union County soldiers serving in the United States and France. Proceeds fund Christmas gifts for every Union County boy in the army.
Washington December 2 Willa Jennings Bryan predicted ratification of a federal prohibition amendment within two years at the annual convention of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. He noted 26 states already dry and said the house would act on the amendment after the senate, Christmas hoped. He praised the presidents beer content reduction as a step forward for prohibition.
