Two Railroad Men of Rowan Held in Statesville Jail
James Chambers and A L Logan both white natives of Rowan County were arrested near Mocksville and brought to Statesville for stealing several coops of chickens from Edgar Roberson and Sharpe Brothers. They confessed and were bound over to court. They claimed work loss from Spencer railroad shops drove them to crime to support large families. Both jailed in Iredell County unable to post $2000 bond. The State Sanatorium law allows towns and counties to fund indigent tubercular patients at up to a dollar a day, expanding access to treatment.
