Weekly county notices report wheat harvests in progress and local infrastructure plans. Events include church anniversaries, public road petitions, Fourth of July music, bank dividends, railroad excursions, academy trustees, and local court actions.
Fire behind the barn of William Brown near town started by boys with matches. Buckets and water saved the barn but two straw stacks, fencing, and barracks burned. Loss estimated around 100 dollars. residents praise the quick, courageous efforts of local volunteers.
A Thursday night storm with heavy rain and a bolt of lightning toppled a tree near Oak Grove school. Teams and drivers in the area suffered minor accidents as buggy wheels were broken and riders jolted, but no serious injuries were reported.
Card of thanks from the festival committee held June 21 and 22 for the Pride drawing cakes confectionery fancy articles and other contributions. Authorities seek George Bailey an Elkton resident with a bad reputation for slashing James Foraker with a razor in an unprovoked attack. Foraker suffered seven wounds three to the face and four to the body requiring thirty stitches. Bailey fled and remains at large.
The New Castle Presbytery met at Elkton Presbyterian Church on Thursday morning. B. J. Brinkema and Morris J. McDowell were ordained to the ministry. Rev. F. E. Williams requested to leave the ministry to become managing editor of the Cecil Whig at Elkton.
Thursday July 4 is a legal holiday and Harnes and Ermx will close for the day.
The Rising Sun Cornet Band held a two night festival on the ball grounds with lantern lights and street lamps. A record crowd bought cakes and tickets for a prize drawing with six prizes including a lawn mower and fountain pen. Net receipts totaled 170.55 after expenses to aid payment on new band uniforms.
James Egan of Farmington showcases an 1825 bill covering March 14 1825 to January 10 1826. The account, kept with Joseph Sidwell, lists three dozen liquor items priced 6 to 10 cents a quart and 20 cents a gallon, with barley and wheat credits exchanged for payment.
The Jacob Tome Institute exhibit for the Jamestown Exposition includes 500 finely mounted photographs of buildings classrooms laboratories libraries and grounds. In charge of M Berry Doub of Hagerstown a graduate of this year the display also shows course of study reading lists amusement schedules and school life specimens.
William Kennedy, a bridge carpenter on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad job at Frenchtown, plunged thirty feet from the structure Friday and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to a Baltimore hospital for treatment.
Harford County lawyer John 8 Young suffered a serious accident Thursday in Belair. While walking through an unfinished house he was building he slipped and fell twenty feet, breaking several ribs injuring his back and sustaining other injuries.

The couples plan residences in Wilmington and Brooklyn with trips to Baltimore Washington and Atlantic City.
A 35 foot high telephone pole on the east side of Main Street North East between the Star office and Dr. Underwood's broke around 9 o'clock Wednesday night. The pole, 15 inches in diameter, stood in a cement bed about a year. The top split one third up, the center opening six inches, the split extending five to six feet each way. At the widest point one side remained broken while the other bent about 15 degrees held by wires.
The Susquehanna Electric Power Company has filed four condemnation suits in Harford County and two in Cecil County to acquire land along the Susquehanna River. The condemnation jury will meet at the mouth of Broad Creek on Friday to hear the cases.
