She is a North East teacher and daughter of Ennis and (Mrs.) McGardy. she also held Miss Cecil County honor from last August. Gov. Albert C. Ritchie presented the prize, and Rising Sun's Eudora Sheridan, chosen Miss Talbot County, competed.

Wife Beater Again in Jail
Harry Jackson a filling station proprietor on the state road between Fair Hill and Rising Sun is jailed in Elkton for a second time in six weeks charged with wife beating. He previously received a suspended sentence for assault. The sheriff was alerted by his daughter after a drunken rampage and deputies took him into custody.

In Elkton Circuit Court Mrs. Allen Conway sues Prudential Life Insurance for double indemnity under an accident clause. After evidence, the judge ordered the case taken from the jury. Conway died at work at Powers Foundry Co. in Elkton more than a year ago. court found no sufficient proof death was from accident, not natural causes.

Murder in Second Degree Conviction at Cecil Circuit Court
George Clark, 24, of Cokesbury near Port Deposit, was found guilty of second degree murder in the Cecil Circuit Court at Elkton for the Dec 2 shooting of William H. Perkins, who died two days later in Havre de Grace Hospital. Clark returned to surrender to a local constable after the fatal confrontation.

Howard M Brown of Secane Pa retired from the Maryland Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad on New Year’s Day after more than fifty years of service. Born December 12, 1865 in Colora Cecil County, he joined the railroad June 1, 1879 and rose through clerical and supervisory roles before becoming chief clerk and head clerk at Media and surrounding offices. He wore the fifty year gold button marking his milestone.
