The Gilpie's Falls power plant near Bay View began operation last week. North East enjoyed bright illumination Tuesday night as streets shifted from coal oil lamps to arc and incandescent lighting under a year-round contract. Transmission to Elkton had not yet begun.

Spectacle Swinders Fined After Oxford Stop
Traveling Philadelphia showmen Harry Samuels Harry Kohn and J Aarons swindled local customers in Oxford and vicinity. After two were captured in Philadelphia and brought to Oxford a hearing led to settlement rather than court. They paid 106 55 in total and left.

Residence Destroyed By Fire at Baldwin Cecil County
The home of Jonathan V. Carter in Baldwin Cecil county burned at noon Monday after a defective flue caused a blaze in the second story. Much of the furniture was lost though the nearby Methodist Episcopal Church was saved by firemen. Carter faces about 2500 dollars in losses, partly insured.

McCall's Ferry Power Plant Construction Details
The McCall's Ferry hydroelectric project near Conowingo will feature a dam 1,500 feet wide and 28 feet high with a substantial base measure. It aims to supply 50,000 horsepower, employing 3,000 workers in spring and a five mile railroad to a quarry for stone. The old hotel will become engineers' headquarters as work proceeds.
