Mellette County Clubs Shine at South Dakota State Fair

Mellette County clubs closed a week at Huron with strong showings among 96 demonstration teams from 6 counties. The Women’s Sewing Team from Cedarbutte led, with plans for further demonstrations at the Mellette County Fair in Wood on September 27. Attendance neared 30,000 daily for the fair’s final three days, marking South Dakota’s largest and cleanest fair.

New Post Office Established in Mellette County Brave

Brave hosts a new post office six miles north of Runningville with Joseph Brave as first postmaster. The office will open when supplies arrive from the department. Ralph Jehu, corn specialist, will be at Richard Langley and Kriegman’s on Monday September 25 at 1:00 PM.

Palmer Family Public Sale Announced for October 5

W J Palmer advertises a public sale in Mellette county for October 5 to fund a move to Lincoln Nebraska for their ailing daughter Norma. The farm includes Shorthorn cattle, Duroe Jersey hogs, White Wyandotte chickens, implements and stock, with the sale featuring the whole farm. Proceeds support the family and better medical care for Norma.

Corn Club exhibit details for 1923 fair

Members of the Mioncer Acre Corn Club must bring ten ears each of Reschud Kine and Reid's Yellow Dent corn for judging at the fair. Entries should arrive by Wednesday and must be in by 6 p m Tuesday the first day. Prizes include a new loving cup, medals for best ten ears and second best ten ears, plus medals for the best acre yield. awarding for the acre yield occurs November first. Applications for 1923 membership will be taken during the fair.

Pioneer Mellette County Paper Named Official Court Newspaper

Judge James D. Elliott of the U S District Court for South Dakota has designated the Mellette County Pioneer as the official newspaper for Mellette county. It will publish bankruptcy notices and any orders the court may direct for publication.

County Fair Horse Races and Events Schedule Update

A detailed list of events for the county fair includes multiple horse races with purses from $20 to $80 and entry rules. Races cover quarter, three-quarter, one mile, two mile runs, calf roping, Indian pony dash, broncho riding, rescue races, and a 100-yard dash. Also listed are a potato race, an Indian shinny game, and postrace entertainment at the American Legion Hall with Strong's Melody Boys.
