A meeting at the school house on Friday evening at 7 30 will organize a Literary Society. The school will present a short program and all are invited. I. H. Hamilton, Principal.
Final counts show 24 yes and 448 no on the court house bond issue, a near two to one defeat. Totals for amendments and referred laws include A 126 264, B 277 278, C 258 25, D 888 228, I 358 227, Ref law 1 27 334, Ref law 2 304 263.
Final precinct tallies in Mellette and Bennett counties show Perry ahead 432 to Kirch 40 percent overall. Mellette 280 Kirch 219 Perry 213 Bennett 128 Kirch Perry 213 totals reflect Perry’s reelection and district support.
John Ham was acquitted after a trial over shooting Glen Sherwood’s horse. Rose was also acquitted in a hog trespassing case. The State of Furgeson was found guilty of rape and faces sentencing tomorrow. Saturday, Mrs. W. H. Biggerstaff was granted a divorce with full property awarded.
With ten counties to report the tally shows broad defeats for most referred laws and amendments. Only state aid for home building and the soldiers bonus survive, with the soldiers bonus authorizing $6,000,000 in bonds for former service men.
A post election appeal urges citizens to forget campaign animosity and restore prosperity. It calls for common sense, restraint on profiteers, and harmony between rulers and people while emphasizing civic duty and responsible governance.
