Fire at Fairview Hotel Narrowly Contained

Tuesday evening a defective kitchen flue sparked a blaze at the Hotel Fairview. Volunteer firefighters and bucket brigades kept the fire from destroying the building. Roof and upper room damage totals about a few hundred dollars, covered by insurance. a close call for Wood town.

Sioux Indian Catholic Congress session near O Creek

The Catholic Indian Congress met near O Creek for four days with church dignitaries from across the country. Bishop J J Lawler confirmed about two hundred Indians and white children, with sponsors Miss Feeney and Mr McNamara. Speakers praised Sioux minds, women’s progress, and Jesuit uplift, hoping lasting good for the Sioux and neighboring communities.

A Trip to Wild Cat Cave on Spearfish Canyon

A group of about 50 students and faculty embarked from the dormitory at 3:00 pm for Wild Cat Cave in Spearfish Canyon. The trek featured a scenic ascent, a cool stream, a camp lunch with coffee and wieners, and a descent by auto for tired walkers, with photos and praise for South Dakota scenery and God’s creation.

Wood band formation meeting urged for July 22

A call to all band men to assemble at the Hall in Wood at 8:00 PM on Tuesday July 22 for organizing a permanent band. Bring instruments. Indians with instruments are specially invited to join and boost the effort.
