The United States Land Office at Gregory closed Friday June 30 and records moved to Washington or Pierre with Gregory consolidated to the Pierre district. Timber Lake and Lemmon offices also closed and merged into Pierre. Earlier history recalls moves among Gregory, Dallas, Carter, and Wilson administrations and rivalries among South Dakota senators Gamble and Kittridge. John Widlon will become Pierre register August 1. South Dakota led in total costs per capita with Town overspending by 5.63 and 2.53 per capita over revenues, while North Dakota and Minnesota lagged.

Cyclone Harms St Charles and Rest Haven Area

Mellette County Fair Association Revived
At a store meeting last Saturday the Mellette County Fair Association elected new officers: C Abourezk president Mark Payne vice president Collice Gallineaux secretary and Chair Freeman treasurer. The group tentatively accepted a proposal to join the Rosebud Indian Fair with the Todd and Rosebud tribes and planned another meeting to decide. Farmers are urged to back the effort and attend tonight’s meeting.
