John Atkinson died at the hospital in Winner after a lingering illness. He was a prominent Native American figure, afflicted with rheumatism since December. He had been bedridden, moved between the Agency hospital and Hot Springs before returning home and then to Winner for closer medical care. He leaves a wife and seven children, with funeral arrangements not yet learned, likely to be laid in the Catholic cemetery west of town.
The piece notes protests in big cities over daylight saving repeal while acknowledging farmer hardships. It argues the issue is one of terminology and suggests aligning schedules to sunrise by shifting business hours, allowing earlier opening and closing to keep evenings light year round.
Sunday evening Gaylord Townsend seven is bitten twice by a rattlesnake just above the right ankle as he walks home from a party. Immediate first aid is given by Mr Rennick and Mrs Townsend send, with his mother sucking the blood from the wound. The boy is taken to White River for treatment and is reported out of danger on Tuesday.
W V Burkenshaw returns from Herrick after Fourth celebration. Mrs Wm McKee ill from tooth pain treated with carvolic acid. Dr DeHart summoned. Pat Navin and Miss Etta Cash wed at St Francis Mission. Ira and Everett Howell return to Mellette County with father and plan future home here. Verse reflects on peace and wartime.

Wednesday morning Bun Leffler borrowed Sam Funk’s car to rush Mrs. McKee to the issue station. He lost control on Main street between the hotel and C Abourezk’s house, the Ford overturning twice. Leffler suffered a broken rib and other injuries. the car was wrecked with broken windshield, torn top, and bent axles.
