The weather bureau report shows total precipitation figures and monthly totals through January 29 with totals for 1913 to 1917. Observer Frep C Kiron notes weekly daily figures for locations including Boston and other stations with zero precipitation on several entries.
The notice asks Red Cross workers with yarn to complete current garments quickly and return any unused yarn. It also states the local chapter will hold all day meetings every Thursday and seeks large attendance.
The Pioneer celebrates nearly seven years in publication with plans to gain 500 new readers, add a linotype costing thousands when possible, and expand home news. Editors thank correspondents, anticipate volume eight, and urge community support to boost the paper and town. Wesley Teutsch, Mellette County soldier, returns home with discharge. Mrs Grace Hanna visits White River en route to work in the county bank.
Soldier writes from Pfalzal near Trier in January 1919 about daily drills and longing for home. He notes peace after war, near Roman era sites, mentions Worms and Metz, historic ties to Lafayette, hopes to be home by March, asks for photos, and sends a Germany scene pamphlet. He recalls weather, asks for news, and describes living quarters and local observations.
The church reports good attendance last Sunday and urges continued Sunday School growth. A sermon titled An Enemy Hath Dare This will be preached next Sunday with communion and a short business meeting after services. Members and friends are invited to attend in the community church setting.
