Word reached here that John M Simpkins died Friday in Omaha. He ran a large ranch northwest of Wood and was known across the Rosebud country. He leaves a wife and several children. No obituary data available for this week.
During morning service on Sunday February 15th the community approved a series of Evangelistic Meetings starting that date. Plan your work and business so nothing will prevent your level to these meetings. Long service at 7 40 with preaching at 8 led by Pastor E C Sauter.
County commissioners of Tripp and Lyman counties meet on White river between Kennebec and Winner to approve a bridge. The new crossing will connect northern Nebraska and central South Dakota routes, becoming the fourth bridge on the White river with others already in use or under construction nearby.
The Caterpillar tractor ordered for Mellette County was misrouted via Custer and Mitchell and billed to Murdo for Jones County. Mellette waited for its arrival while Jones rejoiced at receiving the machine. State highway officials hope to supply a replacement to Jones for road work this year.
Daniel O Prokopsky, long employed by Fred Matouseck south of town, left Tuesday for Russia to search for his parents and visit Bolshevik country. Clyde Mayer and family buy Murdo Hotel at Murdo and plan to take possession February 16 with Mayer, a Palmer Candy Co. salesman, heading the project. Francis Coleman, once of this city, has run the hotel dining room. the new owners will operate it themselves.
Sheriff Breier located Hans O. Satree in Pierre and returned him to Mellette County on a desertion charge. Satree, who left north of town last summer amid cattle rustling troubles, may plead guilty and face a stiff sentence in the state penitentiary. His wife and several children have suffered hard times, with some assistance from county authorities and others working to support the family.
Sometime last Sunday night Abourezk’s general merchandise store was broken into through a rear window and a door to the ware room. The value of loot is estimated at over three hundred dollars with shawls cigarettes and coats among missing items. Fresh car tracks point to an eastbound auto. No definite suspects yet. residents hope for swift arrests.
W A Hart former General Manager of the Cooperative store has purchased A B Watlen Sons grocery at Murdo and taken possession. The Hart family wishes success in the new location. The item notes community ties and local business movement.
