Florence Niell chairs a May 19 faculty breakfast to honor this spring's graduates. The event starts at 8:00 a.m. in the cafeteria with trustees members and wives of graduates as special guests.
The Lee College Student Council led the Texas Junior College Student Council Association Convention at Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde. The theme was Junior College Preparation for the Future. Roy A. Pennycuick of San Antonio spoke, and Lee College will host next year’s convention.
Bruce Hanson violinist and Thomas Stone pianist performed a Sunday 3 p.m. recital in Lee College auditorium. The program featured violin and piano sonatas by Duval Delius Martini and Stravinsky Duo Concertant. Hanson Juilliard graduate and Fulbright alum has performed in Canada Italy and with the Houston Summer Symphony. Stone LC piano professor brings extensive teaching and adjudicating credentials from North Texas UT Austin and East Texas Baptist College.
In April 9 and 10 runoffs at Lee College David Smith defeated David Geaslin to win the presidency. John Nugent beat Bill Craig for Vice President and Gay McFarland defeated Donna Shannon for Secretary-Treasurer. Voting machines were deployed at the college by County Commissioner V. V. Ramsey to boost interest in government, with Alton Laird hopeful on increased turnout.
Clarence Matthews, editor, said the annuals will be distributed the week of May 13 from the press room. Staff on duty 8 to 1 two days that week. bring Student Activity cards to receive a copy. Glossy pictures will be sold at 10 cents each during the same week.
The Curtain Club of Lee College stages a reading from The 13 Clocks by James Thurber and The American Dream by Edward Albee on May 10 and 11. Cast lists include Prince Don Butcher and Judy Blye for The 13 Clocks, and Mommy Carol Lynch with The Young Man alias the American dream Bob Moore for The American Dream.
Officers for the 1963 64 school term were elected with Elaine Townsend as president and Johnny Hickerson as vice president. The slate includes Sharon Cox music chairman Melvin Tal lent editor Ruby Dehoyas hos tess Margie Dossey treasurer Dee Etta Moore secretary Andrew Ship devotional chairman Mylene Keller missions chairman Karen McManus publicity Shirley Le Bouf social and Glenda Davison enlistment chairman.
