After a year of delays, the Moody Center administrative area at Lee College is slated to open before the next semester. The $73,000 grant from Moody Foundation funds over 8,000 square feet, housing counseling, registrar, academic dean, president and other offices with a shared central records system and reorganized departments for improved operations.
The Baptist Student Union on campus heard plans for the new BSU building including a lounge recreation area counseling office prayer room and dining space. Completion is hoped for the second week of March with a dedication March 16 attended by Br. Mack Smoke Roy Cloudt and Dr. W F Howard.
SC roundballers rebounded from an 82-76 loss to Victoria to win the consolation trophy at San Jacinto. In the second game Sam Ballard and LaVoy Darden led with 21 and 15 points, then Darden added 11 as Ricky Beall scored 22 to beat South Texas 73-68. Beall and Darden earned All Tournament honors. San Jacinto, ranked No. 2 nationally, captured first place 79-71 over Wharton Junior College.
Representative Curtis M Graves apologizes for missing the January 7 freshman orientation speech at Gatesville School for Boys and Lee College due to state welfare matters involving 1200 students. He pledges willingness to visit friends at Lee College and assist the community.
During the January 22 finals period the center campus parking will be closed for repaving and re marking with new curbs. Work extends from the Technical building to the cafeteria and west to Lee Drive, while Gulf Street parking remains available. Alvin H. Miles notes entrance and exit drives will be reversed next semester for smoother campus flow.
