A long awaited sign on Market Street lists all companies working on Lee College. Found in a tone of local humor and hints at ongoing building activity. A note urges less cigarette litter and reflects on discipline and culture through quoted lines.
The Student Council announces plans to bypass costly Star Engraving pins and rings and consider a cheaper sterling silver option from Bale Pin Company of Boston at 1.50 dollars. A sign up sheet will be posted on the college bulletin board to measure student interest before an order is placed.
The Texas Junior College Teachers Association will hold its annual meeting in Dallas on March 1 2 3. Lee College delegates include Miss Florence Niell Berkeline Slagle Mark Aiken and George Nelson with Nelson on the program and Aiken serving as secretary.
Mary Lou Kirkpatrick led the first semester honor roll with 60 points, followed by Ralph Erwin and Kenneth Baird with 57. Dean Walter Rundell announced the list of 17 students including Glenda White, Anna Belle Praetorius, Murphy McNulty and many others, with totals and criteria for honors and honorable mention based on course grades.
Lee College reports 583 students enrolled for the spring term as of Monday February 12 with late arrivals registering. Of the total 217 are veterans. final total pending. Seven new vocational courses are offered including practical nursing insurance office practice salesmanship show card writing real estate automotive electricity and machine shop practice. Dean Walter Rundell attributes the rise in trade and industrial course enrollment to the military situation.
Building progress continues despite delayed aluminum window frames. Inspections note sealed openings in the main building to protect interiors while brick work on the gym nears completion and steel framing for the roof is ready. Boiler room installs and cooling tower completion advance as the front entrance shows substantial stone and window placement.
Curtain Club presents The Warrior's Husband a three act comedy set in Cau cassia with Hercules a big sissy and Hippolyta as Amazon queen SapiensPomposia and Antiope center a battle of the sexes as Thesus falls for Antiope Cast includes Katherine Hebburn on Broadway and the spring production promises humorous romance and gender role reversals.
A Baptist Student sponsor ed youth rally was held at Highlands First Baptist Church on February 17 at 7 30 p m Chick Shubble student Baylor School of Theology was principal speaker The program included recreation directed by Glennda White and refreshments were furnished by the 1 st BSU Youth Rally at Baytown.
Twenty five Lee College ex students are in the service or awaiting call. Air Corps entries include Joe Chandler J B Powell Albert Jones Charles Blasingame Floyd Dietz Roland Laird Harry Johnson L B Fisher. Navy enlistees are Donald Hill John Bankston Glen Woods Athol Price Brant Ferguson John Ward. Additional names listed with unknown branches include Charles Flowers Wayne Baker John Ed Connealy Charles Daigle Bill Flynt Bill Fulton Daniel Heintschel Tommy Monk Jack Poager Ben Powell and Jerry Pulley.
Three LC teachers were absent from school last week. Mrs Gladys Ellis was at a Houston hospital where her brother underwent an operation. Mrs Lynn O Hagan was ill with the influenza. Mr James C Chamberlain attended a citizenship conference in Brenham.
