Elks Announce 8000 Scholarship Awards For Students

The Elks National Foundation trustees will award eight thousand dollars in scholastic prizes this year with four Texas students chosen on scholarship citizenship personality leadership and more. The top awards are 300 200 100 and an honorable mention. Applications require a recent photo a written personal statement a parent letter of need a personal history letters of recommendation endorsements and verification by the Exalted Ruler. Applications must be filed by March 1 1948 with the State Elks Association and forwarded to the chairman by April 1 1948.

Ramona Rogers Attends Cleveland Methodist Youth Conference

Ramona Rogers a Baytown Methodist Youth Fellowship delegate and LJC student attended the three day Methodist Youth Conference in Cleveland with fellow Baytown delegates. The theme Christ Above All focused on youth roles in fellowship programs with speakers including HE Stanley Jones Dr Baez Carg o from Mexico Dr Ralph Diffendorpher and Dr Harold Case Barbara Jo Walker Miss America 1947 also attended.

Aptitude Tests Scheduled for February Eleventh

Psychological tests will be given at 8 15 p m Wednesday February 11 in Study Hall B Dean Walter Rundell announces. Students will be excused from classes to take the test. All who have not previously taken a psychological test should take it. Results will not affect grades but aid in choosing subjects and future courses. Two sharpened pencils are needed. paper and other materials are provided.

LIC Students Win Spots On Honor Roll And Honors

Forty nine LIC students qualified for the honor roll with fourteen listed as honorably mentioned for perfect A course work. Dean Walter Rundell announced the list noting six A's and five A's plus B's among named students, and detailing the course loads of those honored.

Macon Norris Set For Sam Houston Coronation Duke and Duchess

Wesley Macon and La Nelle Norris were elected by the LJC student body to serve as Duke and Duchess at Sam Houston State Teachers College Queen's Coronation on February 18 and to act as King and Queen at the LJC Spring Formal. Philip Eeichelberger and Billye Lynn Dudley will represent the freshman class as prince and princess at the spring event. Hal McIntyre's orchestra will provide the coronation music.

Gamma Phi Kappa Slumber Party Planned at King Home

Gamma Phi Kappa held a slumber party at Jesselee King’s home on Friday January 23. Attendees included Marcelette Macon, Jesselee King, Ruth Morris, Mary Lee Salter, Margaret Sheffield, Lavera Jackson and Doris Hylton. Bowling preceded the sleepover and plans for the coming semester were made.
