An odd kaleidoscope of thoughts touches politics religion and culture as a community wrestles with change. References to the First Baptist Church skeleton and ironed wrinkles hint at tense civic upkeep while economic pressure and taxes shape public life and art remains a moving force.
Mary Sloan won first prize with Harvest at the annual Tri County art exhibit at Lee College. Nora Templeton took second for Dallas, Doris Harrop third for A Study in Red and Black. Honorable mentions went to Mary Sweeney and Rose Moran.
Sophomores present the one act comedy Fun on the Podunk Limited at Lee College auditorium Tuesday April 22 at 815 pm. Cast includes Mrs W I Simpson as Miss Prim Bruce Walker as newsboy James Cathey Sr as conductor and Roddy Dubose as Chinaman. Proceeds benefit the sophomore class for a fountain gesture on graduation.
The Student Council announces nominations for the Confederate Spring Ball. Ballot candidates include queen hopefuls Joy Powell Mildred Humphries Louise Alpha Lou De Loach Betty Templar Marjorie Stouffler Glenda Beltzhoever Bobby Jack Van Deventer Jane Dill. King candidates are Bob Brooks Barry Nettles Glenn Tiller Sheridan Roberts John Thomas Glenn Lowry Charles Erwin Eugene Krizak James Carrell Gene Read. Princess candidates include Marjorie Stoufflet Lou De Loach Clarence Mae Giddings Betty Templer. Prince nominees are John Thomas Bob Brooks Walter Choate Lloyd Seiver Eugene Krizak Don Watley. Freshman princess nominees are Carolyn Wynne Jeanette Garber Mildred Humphries Martha Maroney. Freshman prince nominees are Gene Thompson Terry Page Bill Jackson Edmond La Fonte E W Felscher.
Bert Schumner, aged 80, explains his decision to enroll in the University of Miami Law School to pursue a law degree and begin a legal career, saying he wants to practice after earning his degree.

Kappas sent four delegates to the national Phi Theta Kappa Convention in Gulf Port Mississippi from April 3 to 5 with alternate Janice Gorman and reps Pat Mann and Wendell McLemore. They paused in Baton Rouge for sightseeing and returned via New Orleans visiting the Old French Quarter.
Applications are being accepted for the Goose Creek Faculty Club annual scholarship. The $125 award assists a 1952 Lee College graduate with a B average who plans to pursue teacher training. Submit a letter and three character references to Dean Walter Rundell by May 1 1952. interviews follow with details later.
Summer school questionnaires have been made up and turned into the Dean's office. Any student interested in summer school but who did not sign a questionnaire may check the list with Mr. Miles. If there are enough requests for a subject not on the list, classes will be made up.
Back in Baytown on April 6 delegates enjoyed sightseeing tours a banquet and a formal dance at Gulf Park. Janice Gorman was elected president for 1952 53 with Joseph Holsomback as treasurer. A vice president and secretary will be chosen later and Mary Lou Kirkpatrick heads a committee planning a May 2 fraternity picnic.
The Touring Players Company will perform Shakespeare's The Tempest in Lee College auditorium at 4 p.m. on Friday April 18 with sponsorship by the American Associated University Women and Lee College. An 8 p.m. program features three one act plays Londonderry Air Brewsie and Willie and Fashion with music. The troupe brings its own sets costumes and lighting and has earned favorable notices in Life and the Saturday Evening Post.
