Regents mull tax hike for Lee College budget
Regents will discuss raising taxes by up to 1.33 cents to fund Lee College for the next year. The plan would lift the rate from 14.695 to about 15.827 or 16.025 cents per $100 of assessed value, with public hearings required if the rate rises 3 percent or more. Additional agenda items include health insurance pool participation, renovations to Moser Hall and the library, new handbooks, bids for property at 400 W. Texas Avenue, hiring a purchasing agent, and budget amendments for computer hardware for a federal GED program. The board meets at Moody Center, 7 p.m. executive and 7:30 p.m. regular.

DA awaits more evidence in LC car burglary case
Harris County District Attorney's office awaits further information before possible charges against two Lee College students suspected of burglarizing a fellow student's car. A 1981 Datsun 280ZX was parked in the northeast lot near Gulf and Felton at 7:50 a.m. on Sept. 14. A witness saw two males with a slim jim, one removing a T-top roof and loading it into a blue 1984 Camaro before they fled. Police later detained the suspects in a lot near the LC gym, and the Camaro with the stolen roof was recovered. The case moves to the BURGLARY, Page 55.
