Two or three members of the LC basketball team allegedly assaulted three people at the annual haunted house sponsored by Student Congress on October 23. Volunteers were struck and a child was pushed. a special meeting was held October 26 with Student Congress and administration present.
Five Lee College journalism students attended the fall convention in Dallas from October 28 to 31 at the Hyatt Regency. Sponsored by the Texas Community College Association, the event honored publications Reflections and Lantern with a total of 17 awards including firsts for Colby C. Morris's advertising and Ginger Stolander's columns, with multiple second and third place recognitions across news writing, photography, editorial, and layout. Reflections and The Lantern also received overall excellence awards.
The LC Board of Regents voted Tuesday to exit the Stafford Loan program effective January 1994. LC President Dr. Jackson Sasser said withdrawals were necessary to protect other programs, noting a 30 percent loan default rate and the risk of automatic removal if 25 percent or higher by year end.
The spring registration opens January 12 13 and 15 with varied hours in the gymnasium. Telephone registration runs year round with early and late windows for TASP eligible students. Weekend classes start January 21 and late registration ends February 2 with instructor approval. Holiday College Registration runs December 20 21 with December 27 to January 13 class start at San Jacinto Mall.
Lee College celebrated its third annual Eisteddfod on November 9 and 10, showcasing literature, poetry, prose and music by instructors and guests. Performers included Wally Fowler, Dan Mendoza, Marianne Lloyd, Glen Tiller, Ellen Spiller, Jerry Hamby, Ken Roach, Martha Meas, Paula Lay, Roberta Wright, Noah T Smith, John Britt, Ted Olsen, Charles Shafer, and organizer Noah Smith, highlighting a campus tradition dating to the 15th century.
Jeffery A Basen-Engquist discusses The Changing American Family with Lee College psychology students. He covers sexual harassment, domestic violence, family roles, and the impact of media. He notes shifts toward stay at home fathers and women as breadwinners and urges awareness and positive change.
