The Lantern published a March issue survey on LC Board views aiming to reveal individual Regent opinions rather than a unit stance. The writer urges accountability and press access, arguing voters deserve clear facts from six men and three women elected as LC representatives.
The Lantern defends in print that officials should publicly speak to the press and be identifiable, while noting that anonymized quotes were necessary to communicate with students. The paper asserts its objectivity, stating the Board of Regents is viewed as a unit and as individuals, and that anonymity rests with the Lantern.
At Lee College a small Support Services for Returning Students helps older learners reenter academia. Led by LC counselor Gertrude Teter, the informal program offers a sanctuary in Moler Hall with coffee, peer encouragement, and practical aid for major choices, course transfers, stress, and school life.
LC campus officials urge students to report emergencies immediately. Purchasing coordinator Kyle Jennings says three fights occurred this spring involving spouses or non students. Report emergencies to Jennings at extension 227 or to the campus operator. In life threatening cases contact Baytown Police at 4228371. Keep cars locked and noise to attract help if needed. He notes prior attacks on female students but says no major problems since an arrest.
