Regents approve reorganization elimating VP and dean roles
President Vivian Blevins announced at Monday’s Board of Regents meeting that the vice president and assistant deans will be eliminated effective Sept 1 1987. Johnette Hodgin named acting dean of extension studies with an outside-funds drive led by Jerry Alston. An advisory committee will select a permanent dean by Sept 1 1987 for extension studies covering college at the mall weekend college and other programs. John McCormick becomes dean of academic studies effective Jan 1 1987, with a second advisory panel for permanent appointments. Changes also move Howard Duhon to continuing education, reassign Loyce Covin as acting extension studies secretary, and shift duties among purchasing, personnel, and support staff. After Jan 1 the learning resource center reports to the dean of student services, admissions director becomes director of enrollment management, and department structures shrink in both academic and technical/vocational areas. Faculty may nominate potential department chairs for interviews by Blevins.

Lee College considers UHCL extension for four year degree plan
Dr. Vivian Blevins leads negotiations with the University of Houston Clear Lake to create a Lee College extension offering a four year degree path. The plan targets fall 1987 with bachelor and master programs in business administration and a bachelor’s in elementary education on campus.
