Lee College journalism staff earned 15 awards at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention held April 10 through 12 at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Members Michelle Hughes Maria Rambadati Scotty Willey and Greg Rabel earned multiple first place or top finishes in categories across journalism and related fields.
Lee College will hold its 52nd graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. May 15 in the Robert E. Lee High School auditorium. A total of 228 students are expected to graduate, with 76 earning associate of arts, 123 associate of applied science, 27 associate of science in technology, and two associate degrees. Five students will be inducted into the LC Hall of Fame, and awards include the Walter Rundell Award to the top male graduate and the Henry Austin Scholarship. An Excellence in Teaching Awards will be given to two faculty members. A reception will follow in Moser Hall.
Edward Romine, a Lee College sophomore, wrote a journal entry in his American Literature course reacting to the Challenger disaster. His letter to the president prompted a reply from Ronald Reagan, surprising Romine and his teacher. The episode highlights writing across the curriculum and the value of journaling in building writing skills.
Interim President Robert Larsson said he will investigate why several classes are scheduled during the weekly student activity hour after meeting with the Student Activities Committee SAC members complained the 11 am Wednesday classes clash with the student handbook Larsson stressed an open door policy and willingness to listen to students and their concerns
