A Beaufort county murder report describes Joe Smalls killing Adam Giles and wounding Giles’s daughter and a second woman. The writer complains Sheriff Bo Jenkins did little to arrest Smalls, noting delays, lack of funds, and neighborhood fear, urging swift official steps.
Seasonal warning on staying plump to guard against cold weather. Scott’s Emulsion of Cod Liver Oil is promoted as a nutritious aid that aids digestion and nutrient absorption, advertised as safe for all ages. A suspicious free sample offer is noted with unclear wording.
In Orangeburg on September 21 a jury deliberated thirty minutes after a three day trial and found RA and W D Jeffcoat not guilty of the murder of James A Jeffcoat. The short verdict concludes the case against the defendants.

Joe Land, son of WoL Land, dies after a freight train accident near Mt Airy, body mangled, absent from train.
President Elartzog released statistics showing 400 plus students reported for matriculation. Four hundred and nine attended. 15 left for lack of applications, 17 failed required exams. Actual attendance stands at 463, two more than the entire last session.

It claims the medicine has cured thousands of hopeless cases including asthma bronchitis hoarseness and other throat chest and lung diseases and offers a free trial bottle through Crawford Bros Druggist with a guaranteed refund if not satisfied.
Yorkville reports a suspected arson tonight at the Adickes building corner Main and Liberty. A tin can with kerosene and cotton found near the start, a fire on the third floor was doused with water, and a suspect named Fitz was found in a third floor room as smoke filled the area. The two-story business block houses J M Heath & Co with other rooms vacant, and this marks a second attempt in a month in the heart of the business district. nearby Columbus news notes a Seaboard Air Line order for 2,006 freight cars including 1,000 freight cars and 200 ventilated box cars to be delivered by Christmas.
A fragmented report notes a whisky selling scheme to a dispensary, alleging illicit payoffs. It accuses a party linked to the Carolina Spartan of benefiting from the boodle, hinting at corrupted profits. Before the county convention the Free Lance urged that no candidate for office be elected county chair. We are glad other papers back the stance and hope the Democratic party constitution will be amended so candidates for office remain ineligible for county chairman or executive committeemen.
