Negro Company Disbanded After Capitol Ground Riots

Governor McSweeney announced the Capital City Guards, a colored militia, were disbanded for Labor Day disturbances on the state capitol grounds. Secretary of State Cooper barred the militia from using capitol grounds. Rioters faced fines of 40 dollars, with additional penalties for contempt in police court. Ridgeway Man Ends Life After Drinking Laudanum

Special to The State Ridgeway Sept 7 John Morgan a Ridgeway resident committed suicide yesterday by taking laudanum while under whiskey's influence. He was born to Mr and Mrs G M White of Wolf Stake last Monday night, delivering three girl babies. Mother and babies are well. Mr White is pleased.

A large blaze at 3 pm destroyed the Frew Machinery plant in Rock Hill. Foundry and wood shop buildings burned, with wind aiding spread to nearby structures.
