Trial Of James H. Tillan Murder Case Gains Some Ground
Lexington Sept 2 0 progress was made today in the James H Tillman murder trial of Narcisso Gonzales. The State presented witnesses and overwhelming evidence that Gonzales was mortally wounded and no life could be saved. A dying declaration debate opened over I am killed spoken by Gonzales as he lay dying. Witnesses testified to a pistol in Tillman pocket and to Tillman’s remarks about editorials, with doctors confirming the fatal wound from a Luger bullet and the lack of any curative hope. The defense challenged admissibility of the dying statement while arguing he had no clear mind. The session featured testimony by Ambrose E Gonzales and others, and the State offered Gonzales files and editorials for evidence. The day closed after Dr. McIntosh testified Gonzales asked if he was mortally wounded and received a grim reply.
