A RISER–versus–Southern Railway verdict awarded Mr. L. A. Riser eight thousand dollars after hours of jury deliberation in Newberry. Local notes report various crime, fire and business updates across South Carolina towns including moonshine raids and a big fire in Marion.
A. T. Headley of Tilden Indiana, long tormented by rheumatism, reports two bottles of Electric Bitters cured him completely with no pain in over a year. The medicine is praised for regulating kidneys purifying blood and aiding digestion. Available at 50 cents from J. F. Mackey Co. and Crawford Bros drug stores.
Cor of The Observer reports three of William Church's children on Poplar Street Salem were poisoned after eating sardines from a box. They were dangerously ill for hours and the parents were frightened. Dr Peahl treated them. they remained ill but out of immediate danger by afternoon.
Captain John H. Montgomery of Spartanburg fell about sixteen feet at the Pacolet Mill No. 4 in Gainesville and died from skull and internal injuries. He was a leading cotton millman, president of Pacolet and Gainesville mills and head of several others. His son W. M. Montgomery arrived from Spartanburg with family. remains to be interred there Sunday.
A blaze engulfed a residence as firefighters evacuated sleeping occupants. The alarm highlighted dangers from ignored coughs and colds, pitched Dr. King's New Discovery as protection, and advertised a medicinal remedy with trial bottles of 50 cents to one dollar from J. F. Mackey Co. and Crawford Bros.
Mrs. W. B. McClain of Covington Virginia shot and killed her 13 year old son William after mistaking him for a robber outside their home. The boy, returning from a Halloween prank in costume, did not respond to her calls.

Special to Greenville News from Columbia on October 31 reports a late night scuffle between Clemson cadets and South Carolina college students during a victory celebration. Emblems were torn, blows exchanged, several students injured, and police halted the melee.
John M. Gibson of Cincinnati wed Miss Henrietta Cecelia Wolfe at the Battery Park Hotel in Asheville in a bedside ceremony witnessed by Alice Wolfe and a nurse. Though he was dying, Gibson sat up for the vows. Doctors later reported a notable turn for the better and possible recovery, inspiring hope for a full prognosis.
