A fragmentary local piece notes ongoing dispensary controversy in South Carolina with remarks on its supposed permanence, then reports Adjutant General orders placing several troops on reserve amid new militia needs, plus a court ruling awarding damages to Seaboard Air Line for a traveling passenger’s death in a remote case.
Abolition of Liquor Traffic Favored by Advocates
When the dispensary system began, supporters preferred it to barrooms and saw it as a step toward prohibition. Now they contend the dispensary has fulfilled its purpose and the state is ready to end the liquor trade.
