Chicago polygamist Hoch found guilty of murder

Johann Hoch, a self confessed polygamist linked to at least 40 marriages, was found guilty of murdering his wife Marie Welcker Hoch. The jury recommended the death penalty after three ballots, with Hoch expressing a wish to be hanged that night as his attorneys consider a new trial.

Special to News and Courier from Spartanburg reports Mrs Curtis Wall dreamed of a little negro boy stealing three bills she hid. The next morning the money was missing. The boy, about eight, confessed saying he found the bills in the road and went to buy milk. Authorities were told and the tale ended with the implied recovery of the notes.
