Johann Hoch, a self confessed polygamist linked to at least 40 marriages, was found guilty of murdering his wife Marie Welcker Hoch. The jury recommended the death penalty after three ballots, with Hoch expressing a wish to be hanged that night as his attorneys consider a new trial.
A corny advert piece extols Dr King’s New Discovery for consumption coughs and colds claiming instant relief and cure of throat and lung diseases. It lists Crawford Bros J F Mackey Co and Fanderburk Pharmacy as sellers with trial bottles free and prices 50 cents to $1.00. It also includes a humorous Inland Printer quote about a girl and a dog.
Notice states J Montgomery Caskey will hold all inquests in the county. Public may phone his Pleasant Hill residence when needed.

He supports library and school building laws, urges consolidation, and notes plans to expand high school programs and industrial education while improving supervision and facilities. The missive highlights state aid rules and ongoing educational development in the Palmetto State.
A Sherman Texas special reports severe rainfall caused rapid creeks in Grayson County to flood 25 000 acres of cotton land, wiping out stock and injuring crops. Dr. Rogers S. Turlington, 40, physician of Bennettville SC, son of a local merchant, died suddenly at James Walker Memorial Hospital after several days of heavy drinking. He had come to Wilmington to sell land. body embalmed and sent home for interment.
An advertisement claims Bucklen's Arnica Salve cures all surface cancers and heals a lip cancer in a Duffield, Virginia man named Jas Walters. It also guarantees cures for cuts and burns and lists Crawford Bros, J F Mackay Co, and Funderburk Pharmacy as outlets with a price of 95 cents.
The notice states Foley's Honey and Tar cough syrup contains no opiates and will not cause constipation like most cough medicines. Refuse substitutes and note it is sold by Funderburk Pharmacy.
Yorkville May 20 The case of Waverly Fairman against the Seaboard railroad occupied four and a half days of the court It was a suit for 20 000 damages for injuries in the wreck near the Catawba river last fall Attorneys on both sides made able arguments and the charge of Judge Gage was a fine one jury returned a verdict this noon for 5 000 in favor of plaintiff Motion for a new trial was made.
Special to News and Courier from Spartanburg reports Mrs Curtis Wall dreamed of a little negro boy stealing three bills she hid. The next morning the money was missing. The boy, about eight, confessed saying he found the bills in the road and went to buy milk. Authorities were told and the tale ended with the implied recovery of the notes.
Miss Clennie Smith aged 17 was accidentally shot and killed by an Italian boy on her father’s piazza in Marion. The boy fired a supposedly unloaded gun as a jest, the load entering her right breast and causing death that evening.
Judge RC Watts states the man accidentally shot by M Troxton on Monday night is improving and will survive.

Notice by the County Board of Education of Lancaster County South Carolina that an election will be held in Tradesville on Tuesday May 30 1905 to determine if a four mill tax on real and personal property is levied for school purposes. Only electors who return property for taxation and show tax receipt and registration certificate may vote.
