Warehouse Fire Destroys Darlington Grocery Building
The Darlington Wholesale Grocery Company brick warehouse burned last night between 1 and 12 aceek. Origin of the fire unknown. The plant was closed in the afternoon and no employees were present when it broke out. Fire reached flames near midnight. Loss estimated at 12000 dollars, only partially insured.
Hanged For Murder In New Orleans
Lewis W. Lyons was hanged in New Orleans for the murder of District Attorney Gurley on July 20, 1903. Lyons, once a clothing merchant’s son, fell on hard times. He had sued detectives and Gurley over a lost diamond pin before killing Gurley and attempting suicide. The defense argued insanity.
