Saluda Mystery Death in Pasture Near Saluda
Special to The Saluda News: John Chapman, a widely reputed gambler, was found shot twice in a pasture near Little Saluda River after disappearing two weeks earlier. Eyewitnesses report hearing three gunshots after Chapman left Corley’s house en route to the fish basket. Coroner Gibson led a brief inquiry. a local lady’s sighting of Chapman near his home halted the investigation. Some speculation blamed other negro gamblers at Little Saluda bottoms, a known Sunday gathering spot.

Fatal Accident at Power Engine Plant
