Pensions Fall Off and a Daring Greenwood Burglary

A mix of items reports pension reductions under the new law, with Spartanburg seeing about 150 fewer pensions than last year. Also described is a bold Greenwood burglary where Manuel Bayond and John Fauntleroy escaped a jail by burning the door and stealing goods valued around 30 dollars from Bolton's clothing store. Three Killed by Lightning in Atlanta Home Fire

A lightning strike in Atlanta on Monday night killed Postmaster Morgan family members including a twelve year old son and six year old daughter as the house burned. Morgan, awakened by flames, found his wife and two younger children dead. three other children survived. The blaze toppled the burning roof moments after the bodies were removed.

Doty Baro Burned Near Winnaboro South Carolina

Fire destroyed the Doty bar near Winnaboro Winnsboro South Carolina on March 5 consuming the building and four to five wagons and about twenty sets of harness. Five mules were burned and four or five more scratched while trying to rescue them. Loss estimated at 1500 with 400 insured and the fire regarded accidental. A$500 reward per participant offered in Terre Haute for Ward lynching case.
