Incendiary blaze destroyed the barn of M. M. Wood near Greer's two miles away, killing 22 cattle and destroying feed, wagons, implements. Four horses were saved. A witness, Wood's son, saw a man flee the scene as flames broke out. The incident is viewed as arson.
Fertilizer shipments for February reached 87,264 tons, up from 86,735 in January, with demand dull in January and little improvement expected. Fertilizers are moving rapidly now, suggesting a potential rise in activity this month.
In Mc Coll on March 1 a blaze consumed seventy five bales of cotton on the Atlantic Coast Line depot platform. The bales belonged to J F McLaurin H L McLaurin and the Gibson Mercantile company. Cause undetermined but likely sparked by a passing freight engine from the north.
In Monck's Corner on March 3 the six year old daughter of Mr George Murray died after swallowing a piece of stick last Saturday. A physician was summoned but could not save her. Mrs Murray, a strong believer in faith healing, telegraphed the Gospel Trumpet to pray for the child's relief.
The court continued the State versus Petey Bind for murder in Bishopville on March 4. After closing speeches by the solicitor and defense, the jury deliberated about half an hour and returned a guilty verdict with recommendation to mercy. The judge then delivered solemn remarks on the case.
A Chicago Street car conductor reports he was attacked by a mob at a Tabor riot and treated with Arnica Salve, soon recovering. G. J. Welsh of Tekonsba Mich endorses it for his family. Ad promotes 25¢ Arnica Salve at Crawford Bros J F Mackey Co and Fonderburk Pharmacy.
President Roosevelt and Secretary Morton announced that one of two new battleships approved by Congress will be named South Carolina. The vessel, displacing 16,000 to 18,000 tons, is slated for about 19 knots and an estimated cost near 68 million dollars.
The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled the State Board of Directors lacked authority to close the Elloree county dispensary. The justices voided the board’s December 14, 1904 resolution, granting Weeks prohibition relief to stop enforcement and restrain removal of the dispenser. The decision clarifies that closing a dispensary rests with a different tribunal and not the state board.

Charlottenville Va March 3 It is believed all the insurance policies held by J Samuel McCue will pay without trouble Newport Life leads settlements after proof of death. Executors provide verification and a check for 1000000 is sent to local agent W L Smith. The settlement includes 11.85 unearned interest and 315 borrowed in October to cover the policy loan.
Georgia bank robbery at Flovilla last night wrecked the vault with an explosive and fugitives escaped with 4000 dollars in cash. A reward is offered for information leading to the recovery of a black Berkshire sow and six months old pigs missing since Sunday.
Berlin reports Gen Kuropatkin warned of extreme danger after Japanese breakthrough severed Russian left wing and cut rail lines north of Mukden. Japanese forces under Kuroki gain ground across Manchuria, report says, with Russian positions at Gaotu Pass evacuated and Koreas area now under Japanese control.
