Fresh arrivals announce satin stripe lawns at bargain prices. Seer suckers in stripes and plain fast colors offered at five cents. Lot of 12 and 15 cent items received. Butistes offered at eight and ten cents. Describes fine values expected to sell quickly.
The shop reports new arrivals of ladies misses and children's sandals with one to three straps. Styles are praised as desirable and prices lower than elsewhere. Business is described as tremendous and competitive.
A note announces Prisse garments in muslin and namsook for misses and children. Trimmed with lace and embroidery, the items are described as well cut and properly fitted. Prices range from 25 to 150 cents, with cheap options highlighted.
Sale note highlights men’s shirts and shirt waists ideal for hot weather. New stock arrives with breezy shirt waists and summer trousers. Prices advertised at 35, 40, 50, and 60 cents on sample lines, reburt worth 50 cents to 1.00.
Our Miss Evans' fine work has charmed town and country as two stocks are sold out and the third selling rapidly. Prices on millinery this season are lower than usual with a pretty banded sailor available at 20 cents.
London reports Lord Kitchener dispatch from Pretoria dated June 4 stating Jamestown Cape Colony surrendered to Kritzinger’s command on June 2 after four hours of fighting. Casualties were three killed and two wounded for the British. Boer losses likely heavier. Stores looted and garrison released. Gen. French placed in charge of Cape Colony operations. Aliwal North Cape Colony notes Col. White’s forces near Jamestown on June 3 repelled Boers, seized 50 horses and munitions, and recovered looted stores.
Terrible explosion described as a gasoline stove fire left a woman terribly burned. Palmer from Kirkman, Iowa notes doctors failed to heal the wound but Bucklen's Arnica Salve cured it. Also advertised for corns sores boils skin disease and piles at Crawford Bros and J J Mackey Co.
Dispatches report heavy fighting near Vlakfontein on May 29 with 1450 troops, seven guns, and Boer forces. Casualties include 6 officers and 57 men killed or missing, with 41 Boers killed on the ground. Pretoria report says Col Wilson with 240 Kitcher’s scouts surprised 400 Boers of Beyer’s command 34 miles south of Warm Baths. Boers resisted then fled leaving 37 dead 100 prisoners and 8000 cattle to the British. Beyer’s men arrived too late to recapture the supplies.

A Boston man who married a ailing wealthy woman finds happiness after using Dr. King's New Life Pills. The laxative remedy is claimed to cure jaundice biliousness malaria fever and ague and all liver and stomach troubles. Sold by Crawford Bros and J F Mackey Co for 25 cents.
The Washington Post reports Mr Tillman shows strong confidence in swaying South Carolina voters to the polls for a large major to back his pitchforks and calamity.
An 1880s style advertisement offers one hundred dollars reward for catarrh cure by Hall's Catarrh Cure. It lists J Cheney and Co Toledo proprietors, endorsements from West PRUAX and Wawpina Kinn an Manvin druggists, and promotes internal remedy with testimonials and family pills.
Washington June 6 Diplomats from most European nations met with Secretary Hay on a diplomatic day to discuss the Chinese negotiations. A middle ground on the modus vivendi governing indemnity payments is seen as likely a joint and several guaranty. Each government would share liability only to its portion, with the United States cap at 25 million dollars.
The 83 year old farmer Emanuel Hendricks, living thirteen miles north of the city, was fatally injured in a runaway yesterday afternoon. While descending a hill the mule slipped from control.
