Mrs Shumate Killed In Buggy Accident Near Cedar Lane
The funeral of Mrs. Henry M. Shumate will be held Sunday morning after a buggy accident four miles from Cedar Lane road. A frightened horse caused the carriage to overturn on a sharp curve. Mrs. Shumate died instantly while Mr. Shumate was briefly unconscious with only minor injuries. The body was taken to W. T. Cunningham’s residence and then to her home in Grenville. Mr. Shumate, one of the city's wealthiest citizens, was injured and survived.
