Confederate Dead Honored in Aiken
Aiken July 28 a large crowd gathered for the unveiling of the Confederate monument by the Ladies' Monument association with veterans from across the state and Augusta joining a memorial procession. He was arrested there but granted a pardon on condition not to return to the state. Blackwood, who stole a bale of cotton and fled the chain gang, now lives in Texas with his wife and three children.
