Bennettsville June 29 special to The State Jim Harris the Black man who escaped a chain gang last February and killed a guard with an axe has been convicted of a serious crime and sentenced to death on August 9 Walter Hines who escaped with Harris was also convicted and given life imprisonment after mercy recommendations Judge Watts called the case one of the plainest of cruel acts in Marlboro County court.
