House of Sorrow: Seay Family Disaster in Asheville
Special to Charlotte Observer reports tragedy at 208 Park Avenue Asheville where 15 year old John Seay accidentally shot Will Bishop from South Carolina. Bishop died next morning from the wound. two hours later Seay's mother died from shock, and his sick brother is near death. Seay has reportedly lost his reason.

Galesburg Illinois January 3 Five men entered the First National Bank of Abingdon bound and gagged the night watchman then blew the vault securing $48000. Thirteen charges of dynamite were explored before the cash was reached. Two robbers were later arrested at Quincy.

Filipono Placido Sentenced to Life for Murder in Aguinaldo Plot
Manila Dispatches report Hilary Placido, a Filipino who aided Gen. Funston in capturing Aguinaldo, received a life imprisonment for murder at Colorado headquarters. Funston defended Placido, saying he was never a U.S. spy and only received payment for aiding the capture. Placido helped mislead Aguinaldo’s camp and restrained the revolutionary leader during the operation.
