About seven thousand people, mostly African American, crowded the Piedmont Park agricultural building in Atlanta for the opening session of the Negro Young People's Christian and Educational Congress. Aug 5. Chief McMillan learns Julian Foster, murderer of Louis White last Sept, was arrested in Clinton Mass. A tip via Chief Barr led to the arrest after Foster hid under alias Will Reader and earlier used names Taboniey Station Pa and Boston Mass. A $100 reward was offered.

Baltimore Maryland August 5 Captain Neilson of the Norwegian steamer Tromp reports a whale encounter southeast of Georges Bank off Nova Scotia. The ship struck a whale crossing the bow, nearly cutting it in two. The collision caused a momentary shock but no damage. The dead leviathan was about eighty feet long.
