Christmas in Bethlehem by a pilgrim witness
The narrative recalls Bethlehem perched on a hill crowned by the Church of the Nativity. The Grotto under the church holds the traditional birthplace with a glass star set in a pavement niche and Latin inscription. Pilgrims kiss the star, while a midnight church procession unfolds with incense and velvet attire. The writer recalls camp life near Bethlehem and the dawn over the Moab mountains as the journey ends.
