At Colorado Agricultural College poultry institute in Greeley on August 17 Prof W G Chambers showcased a Rhode Island Red hen that laid 200 eggs in a year. He keeps 40 to 50 hens on a town lot, spends about $1 per hen on feed last year, uses trap nests, and averages a little over twelve dozen eggs per hen annually. He notes market egg prices averaged 25 cents per dozen, yielding about $3 per hen annually, with higher income from hatching sales.
