The club closes its fiscal year November 20 with praise for the year’s work but urges renewed effort. It stresses growing membership, election of officers on November 25, and strong bureau leadership to avoid letting dues arrears and loose organization undermine future usefulness.
The treasury department is considering a gold silver dollar with silver to most wear and enough gold to give intrinsic value. The alloy would be distinctive in color and conveniently sized for general use. Proponents argue it would bolster precious metal mining by promoting metal money and countering a declining industry.
Local Scottish Rite Masons plan to perform the sixth degree for Grandview lodge during the Armistice Day event. The Yakima lodge will exemplify the ninth degree the same day. Transportation available by notifying G H nafelt.
Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Moulton and their daughter Helen were in Walla Walla and Pullman over the weekend, traveling Saturday and Sunday.
The American Legion will hold an Armistice Day dance at Highlands club house on Wednesday evening November 11. Tickets are on sale and novelty stunts will be featured during the event.
The War Department offers a collection of war trophies and the council accepts. The trophies will be used as decorations in the city hall.
The city council invites Northwest architects next week to learn the project details and submit sketches and cost estimates. A selection will be made from designs and the proposition sent to voters. They estimate a suitable building for 13000 dollars with a 15000 dollar bond, as the city already owns the site.
Lynn L Smith former city schools superintendent now with Ginn & Co publishers has been in town this week. He reports Mrs Smith and the children well. The visit confirms family is settled on the coast.

Rev F J Mynard of Prosser leads a Mission at St Pauls Church from Sunday November 15 to Wednesday 18. Daily Holy Communion at 10 morning, meditation at 3 afternoon, and mission services at 7:30 evening. Women and friends urged to attend, with many men encouraged to come. Mynard is a veteran missionary speaker with a powerful message. It will be worth while.
The Rose Croix chapter of the Masonic lodge has been granted a permanent charter. Grand lodge officials will attend the dedication ceremonies marking the third active charter in Kennewick.
R L Banta sold his Garden Tracts home place in Kennewick to C S Davis of Pasco who will take possession at year’s start. The 4.07 acre riverfront farm includes a modern house, barn, garage, orchard with 220 cherry trees and other fruit, lawn, and floral gardens. Davis plans to replace pear and apple with Lambert cherries after moving in.
Milwaukee railroad officials announce will advertise and serve fruits and vegetables from the White Bluffs Hanford district on dining cars next year. H B Earling cites Cold Creek water finds enabling arid land reclamation with wells and spouting water. Priest Rapids valley strawberries and asparagus expected aboard as soon as winter ends.
Miss Delma O’Keefe and Robert Ryan married Monday with Dr. Donald D. MacLaurin officiating at his Highlands home. The bride, oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Jay O’Keefe, came from Kellogg Idaho to Kennewick a year ago. The groom from California works at the Big Y plant and they will reside in Kennewick.
Chas Robertson sold his Highlands ranch Tuesday to J B Ferguson and Maude Hilbert of Seattle. The 14.25 acre property includes 10 acres of fruit with eight year old trees entering full bearing this year. Five acres cherries five acres Delicious apples plus an acre asparagus strawberries vineyard and plow land. The sale included tools and equipment and improvements such as a residence barn and outbuildings. The buyers plan to move in early next year with grandson John Ferguson among the residents. Robertson anticipates further money making opportunities around Kennewick.
Miss Gertrude Gage county club leader accompanied the Finley 4-H livestock judging team Albert Piert Elmer Schmelzer and Edward Zindel to Portland for the Pacific International Livestock Exposition. The contest included eight livestock sets with Pacific states competitors. Gage’s team placed third at Spokane and fifth at Yakima with Gage praised for guiding the group. Portland Chamber of Commerce hosted a banquet for clubs involved. Dan Reaugh a Grant county member led judging scores as his team finished fourth.
The Moose lodge will stage a Legion ceremonial and dance on Saturday November 21 at the Moose hall. The affair begins with a big dance followed by the frolic and assembly of lodgemen. Delegations from Yakima valley and Walla Walla will attend.
Kennewick Lodge of the Knights of Pythias announces a social evening at their hall next Tuesday. The third rank will be conferred during the event.
The council gave first and second readings to an ordinance changing street names. Avenues will run east and west and be numbered. streets will be named for trees in alphabetic order. Kennewick Avenue will replace Second Street. Washington St and Columbia Blvd stay.

The council orders a street light on Washington street near the canal bridge to reduce dangers. Faulty bridge construction prevents repairs and the area lacks a sidewalk, making pedestrians use the street. drivers struggle to see due to the grade, with several near misses reported.

Funds are needed to reestablish the bureau per constitutional directive. two boxes of investor letters may be presented to the appropriations committee.
Taxpayers threatened to appeal to the state tax commission but none filed protests. A single appeal on assessed valuation was heard, the commission upheld the county board of equalization, and all parties accepted the ruling. The new act allows appeals to the courts at every taxation step, with railroads supplying much of the judiciary’s workload.
An amateur auto crash occurred at the foot of Lincoln hill Monday forenoon when Joe Du Buc and J A Hatch collided. Both cars were damaged though no one was seriously hurt. Mr Hatch acted quickly to avert harm. In Hatch’s car were Mrs Hatch and several other passengers who escaped with only minor bruises and a shaken state of mind.
